After years of being afraid of Virtual Machine I find it was a bit silly to be afraid, I guess.
After some thought, and trial and error, I see you can run any other Operating System (OS) in a new window on the desktop.
And another OS in that window.
... and even another OS in that window (if your computer is powerful enough).
I read that very powerful computers and skilled programmers can go very deep with many layers or have lots and lots of OS's running on the top layer.
Well, that's all a bit over my head.
But "virtualizing" just one instance of another Operating System on your existing Desktop just isn't the big step that we thought it was.
