Spent grain
« on: October 04, 2016, 03:31:38 PM »
After doing the calcs for UJSM. Where the heck am I going to dispose of 250kg (that's dry weight) of corn? (planning to fill another 200+litre oak barrel.) my guess is someone is going to notice if I dump that grain down the sewer.

A well known ballpark figure for estimating purpose is 1/4 pound of feed per chicken per day, or, 1.5 pounds of feed per chicken per week.

So 250kg = 550lbs which will feed 366 chickens for a week, it is reasonable to expect 5 eggs a week from a chicken, so the left over grain could be converted into 1833 eggs  ;D.

Well, problem with ferments on the grains a bit alcohol wil remain in the grains,so you can not feed it to the animals,or you need a lawman to guarantee safetey 8)

So A dilemma ,true the sewer well the rats will notice :)

Love to hear how you solve this problem.

cheers K3

Never tried it but ............ A few of the "Backyard Chicken" sites recomend fermented grains as feed, apparently chickens do not get drunk, but ducks keep falling over.

1833 eggs @ 12 per dozen = ~150 dozen eggs. @ $5 per dozen that's $750. So rough guess at $250 for costs (not including initial outlay) that's $500 bucks.

But!

Add a couple of roosters and this gets interesting.

1833 fertilised eggs = 1833 chickens. Now if we sell 1833 little hatchlings to unsuspecting hipsters at the local farmers market @ $10 ea that's $18000 per week!

Or make make a lawyer beverage with the eggs this is  a alcohol egg drink in our country called.   advocaat
you need 8 eggs for a one liter bottle sugar and neutral spirit.
so 1833 eggs will generate almost $ 2500
Not so much as our Law of ohms  example but more related to our hobby.
On the other hand you can wake me up at night with a grilled chicken.  :)

We should split that off into the recipe's thread :)

but has anyone used a sink disposal unit before?

Maybe this could be my solution, if its only the 20kg of corn per mash that you toss out, then it might be ok?
